Twin Turboprop short-haul commuter aircraft with 16-18 passenger seats, 2 flight crew, cruising speed of 400 km/h and max range of 900 km, the Dornier 228 is a comfortable and fairly fast 18-passenger turboprop that is ideally suited to STOL (short takeoff or landing) operations. Since the Dornier 228 has an overhead wing and large windows, passenger visibility is excellent.
The Dornier Do- 228 is a small, German, twin turboprop STOL-utility aircraft manufactured by Dornier GmbH (later DASA Dornier, Fairchild-Dornier) from 1981, to 1998. In 1983, Hindustan Aeronautics bought a production license and manufactures the 228 till this day. Approximately 270 Do-228 were built at Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, and Kanpur, India. About 195 are still in service worldwide.
